08-21.08.2014 at SomoS Gallery

Opening: August 7th, 2014 19-22h
Exhibition: August 8th - August 21st, 2014 Tues-Sat 14-19h

The My Paper Sunglasses project comes to Berlin for its fifth instalment after four acclaimed exhibitions across South America. Creative director Otavio Santiago invited artists from his current home in Berlin along with those from his former home in Brazil to express their artistic perspective on cutout paper sunglasses offering a glimpse into the unique identities of these artists while seriously complicating the boundaries between art, portraiture and fashion.

A performance by Lisa Stertz and an editorial fashion spread by WOW Berlin Mag, both inspired by the paper sunglasses project, will be presented for the first time on the opening night.

A silent auction to support SomoS art house and the artists involved will take place during the entire run of the exhibition. You can take a look at the diverse selection of artworks created for the MyPaper Sunglasses Berlin edition at the opening and any of our open gallery hours. On the final day, Thursday August 21st, a finissage will be combined with the announcement of the winning bids for these unique creations.

LUXUS EXHIBITION - A study of luxury by berlin artists

What is luxury? Luxury was derived from the Latin word „lux“, meaning „light“, „bright“ and „brightness“. When transferred, the luxurious can be interpreted as something that is visible to all. Whereas critics dismiss the luxury as blindness, followers view luxury as a source of enlightenment. The term is diverse, complex, and charged — often, its use is limited to categorize high quality goods, such as expensive cars and jewelry. But what does luxury really mean in today´s global society?

This exhibition features the works of different creatives from Germany — including artists, designers, filmmakers, and sound designers — who re-evaluated the contemporary role of luxury and encapsulated their visions and agendas through their creations.
